
As the Maleny Community Centre celebrates its 100th birthday, it is fitting that we commence the task of renovating and upgrading the existing Community Centre to provide an all encompassing arts and cultural facility that will service the Hinterland for the next 50 years.
The First Stage covers a significant redevelopment of the southern Bicentenary Lane side of the existing hall, and will provide an extension and improvement of the present Wait a While Room, currently known as the Seniors Room. This area will include disabled facilities as follows:
1. A new disabled-friendly laneway entry for Seniors and those using the Wait A While Room
2. Renovation and upgrade of the present toilet facilities to disabled status
3. Covered verandah with laneway access
4. Improvements to the Wait a While Lane, as it will be called
5. A pop-out provision for housing 250 chairs in off hall storage on LHS of the hall
6. A new multipurpose Green Room to be constructed behind the stage, including changing area for on stage players
7. Stripping relevant ex- & internal asbestos and recladding
8. Improvements internally to existing hall ventilation and lighting.
The Second Stage
will be to rebuild the Maple Street frontage including two storeys with verandah over footpath, and is subject to the necessary approvals. Estimate $1,300,000.
Commence 2009/10
The Third Stage
comprises the building of a new cultural centre on the present building at No:1 Bicentenary Lane.
Estimate: $6,000,000.
