You will find Maleny to be an interesting melange of rural life, commerce, the arts and cooperative ventures, all with a powerful community feeling, with restaurants, art galleries, food experiences and much more. With over 100 accommodation facilities around Maleny and on the Blackall Range, there's a great choice of accommodation styles, costs and facilities from camping sites to five star B&Bs, there's motels and lodges, cabins and cottages, wedding venues and romantic hideaways and escapes. The quiet villages of Witta, Bald Knob and Reesville are home to some of Australia's most creative minds, as exemplified by the Book Farm, an unique educational venue devoted to children's literature and the natural environment. Witta, originally called Teutoberg by early German settlers, hosts the Berganns Walk through a rainforest track between green paddocks and was used in early days by local schoolchildren. Along Mountain View Road, admire the Glasshouse Mountains below and the magic of Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve with its Natural History Education Centre. The wheelchair accessible tracks pass through some of the last remnants of subtropical rainforest in Australia.
Or if your pleasure is in bushwalking, there's range of great walks from a leisurely stroll around at Obi Obi in Maleny and the Gardners Falls on the banks of the Obi Obi Gorge, or for the more energetic the 58kms Great Walk of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland - which can also be walked in sections whether from Baroon Pocket Dam to Kondalilla Falls and National Park, or further up to Mapleton Falls National Park and Forest Reserve. For eating, drinking and shopping there's award winning ice creams and cheeses, chocolates and fudges, wineries and more in and around Maleny and Witta, Montville, Flaxton and Mapleton on the Blackall Range and down at Kenilworth in the Mary River Valley. Down the hill there are attractions aplenty from Australia Zoo and Aussie World to the Big Kart Track.
