PRESS RELEASE FROM MALENY SINGERS:
Maleny Singers Exciting program for 2018!
Following a standout season in 2017 with hugely successful productions of Mendelssohn’s oratorio “Elijah”, and Mozart’s opera “Magic Flute”, Maleny Singers are ready to wow Sunshine Coast audiences again this season, presenting two classic light operas.
First up in June, and already in pre-production, is Gilbert and Sullivan’s hilariously funny political satire “Iolanthe”. With an expansive set, and gorgeous costumes coming all the way from Perth for this production, it promises to be one of the best-staged musical shows in the region this year. Don’t you wish you had a fairy godmother who could wave a wand and turn today’s politicians into normal people? This opera shows how it is done!
As if that wasn’t enough, the Singers are planning to stage a gala production of Mozart’s comic opera “Marriage of Figaro” in November, in support of Rotary’s Charity program for the year. This abridged version of the much-loved opera will not only be a “must-see” event, but will support a variety of good causes through the Rotary connection.
Finally the Singers plan to round out the season with its traditional program of Christmas song in December. While often not attracting the plaudits of the big stage shows, the quality of the music on display in this yuletide program is usually second to none.
Many of you will be long time supporters of Maleny Singers, who know what quality of production to expect from Musical Director Margaret Taylor. For those who do not, don’t miss the chance to see wonderful musical productions sung by very talented local voices!
